GameSpot’s Watch Dogs Review Epitomizes “Epic”
Earlier this week, we chose to honor Rob Smith’s Watch Dogs review, which was extremely well balanced and enjoyable to read. That was our first selection.
When it comes to huge AAA releases like Ubisoft Montreal’s latest, we’re inclined to honor two critics, simply due to the sheer number of reviews that become available. And after dozens more Watch Dogs analyses hit the Internet over the past few days, we’ve settled upon our second choice: GameSpot’s Kevin VanOrd.
We’ve been a fan of Kevin’s for years, so it was probably inevitable that he’d write something worthy of our recognition. VanOrd is one of the most observant, knowledgeable and insightful critics out there, and his Watch Dogs review is the very definition of “epic.” And considering the game in question, that fits, does it not?
Why We Like It:
— First and foremost, that’s an amazingly in-depth review. People might say, “eh, anyone can write a really long review.” True. But hardly everyone can write a lengthy analysis and keep it entertaining throughout. On top of which, VanOrd sprinkles in highlights of his personal experience to augment his points, and that keeps the reader interested.
— Very well written and immensely descriptive. This critic is one of the best when it comes to producing reviews that jump right off the page.
— Correctly eliminates the popular argument: “Did it live up to expectations?” It is our belief that this has no bearing on what should be a professional and mostly objective analysis. What we wanted it to be is irrelevant; what it is…that’s what ultimately matters.
