IGN Delivers a Passionate, Top-Tier Evolve Review

Evolve appears to be a polarizing game, and here’s one review that confidently picks a side.

Evolve is one of those games that causes a lot of controversy due to widely varying critical and gamer responses. Though it’s still early, we’ve already seen reviews in the 6 and 9 ranges, and gamers who either dismiss it entirely or absolutely love it. The latest from Turtle Rock Studios is definitely running the gamut of reactions, so it can be difficult to select a favorite review.

However, we found it at IGN, where critic Vince Ingenito penned an excellent evaluation of the co-op shooter. While the concept is relatively simple, Ingenito points out that theĀ developers deliver what they promised. This is in stark contrast to other games in recent memory, so it’s nice to get a game that brings the gamer precisely what it claims. There’s a lot of great multiplayer action and the game receives a boost from a wonderfully detailed and engaging environment.

More reviews will undoubtedly roll in as time progresses but if you’re looking for a review that covers all the bases, you have to read this one. FPS fans know what they’re looking for in a game and this critic understands as well. The result is an analysis that caters to the appropriate demographic and rewards the designers for coming through in fine fashion. This is Ingenito’s second honor at VGRHQ; last year, we selected hisĀ Borderlands Vita review as worthy of recognition.

Congrats, Vince!

Why We Like It:

— This review cuts through a lot of the crap surrounding the game upon launch and simply focuses on the important parts. You know, gameplay, atmosphere, fun factor, etc. It’s also quite well-written.

Addresses the all-important balance and pacing aspects that drive co-op-based games forward. A game like this needs to feel right, you know?

— While it might be easy to fall into the PR and hype traps, along with the DLC controversy that surrounded the title at launch, this critic zeroes in on the game itself and spends the majority of the text talking about what always matters most: Gameplay.

Extremely well done.

This is just okay…another shooter in a shooter-rich environment. I will say it can be fun with others, though.

Great game, great review.
