Predict the Review Score For: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

It's going to be absolutely epic...but how will the critics respond?

It’s going to be absolutely epic…but how will the critics respond?

It’s arguably the most anticipated game of 2015, and easily one of the most anticipated titles of the new generation. Or at this point, should we just call it the “current” generation…?

At any rate, leading up to the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the gaming community is abuzz: It’s such a hugely ambitious project and it supposedly utilizes a large portion of the new consoles’ power. There’s plenty of technical debate going on about that; here, we want to discuss the critical reception of the game. How do you think it will fare?

Historically, open-world games have done quite well with critics and if you toss in the role-playing angle (ala The Elder Scrolls), there’s a good chance you’ll see some very high scores for The Witcher 3. Perhaps the only snafu is the overall execution and pacing, neither of which we can really judge until we sit down and play the game. Not all such adventures control as flawlessly as we would like, for instance, and critics have been cracking down on trivial side-quests and “fetch quests.”

It'll be gigantic and immersive, so will that translate to super high scores?

Of course, the developers have said in the past that we won’t have to worry too much about fetch quests. Still, it’s obvious that reviewers need to spend quite some time with this one before coming to a conclusion. It also begs the question: How long should a review be for such a game? And can one review really encompass everything involved in such a mammoth experience? These are questions any good critic must face before writing this review.

The only thing left is to reach the embargo date and start reading. We can’t wait!

I’m going with an average of about 92 on Metacritic.

A lot of high 9s and 10s with a few 7s thrown in because some sites just need to get the traffic. 😉

LOL so true!

Oh am I SO spot on! 😀

Well, so far. 😉

9.4 average.

GotY baby.

I’m going with a flat 9. Like WheresPortal3 says, I think there will be plenty of places that need traffic so they put out a low score. And maybe more than we think.

I agree with Cloud. I’ll go with 9.
