PS4 vs. Xbox One: Which Exclusive Titles Will Score Higher?

The exclusive software battle is a big part of any console war. Top-tier exclusives help drive hardware sales.

However, we ask the gaming community: Which console’s exclusive games will earn the higher review scores?

Historically, the PlayStation brand has typically come down with the exclusive crown. If we examine the Metascores for the previous generation, for example, we find the following results for PS3 and Xbox 360 exclusives:

Nothing topped Uncharted 2: Among Thieves last generation.

PlayStation 3

1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves: 96
2. The Last Of Us: 95
3. LittleBigPlanet: 95
4. God of War III: 92
5. Journey: 92
6. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception: 92
7. LittleBigPlanet 2: 91
8. Killzone 2: 91
9. MLB 10: The Show: 91
10. Demon’s Souls: 89

Xbox 360

1. Gears of War: 94
2. Halo 3: 94
3. Gears of War 2: 93
4. Forza Motorsport 3: 92
5. Halo: Reach: 91
6. Gears of War 3: 91
7. Forza Motorsport 4: 91
8. Mark of the Ninja: 90
9. Left 4 Dead: 89
10. Shadow Complex: 89

Statistically speaking, the PS3 had higher-rated exclusives, and a wider variety in terms of the overall exclusive library (franchises that missed the top 10 but still scored high included Ratchet & ClankGran Turismo, and Resistance). If we examine the PS2 vs. Xbox era, the discrepancy is even greater, although that may be somewhat unfair as it was Microsoft’s first foray into the console world.

However, forgetting history for a moment, it does appear as if the exclusive battle is shaping up a little more evenly for the new generation. We have to wait until E3 to see more but for the time being, both the PS4 and Xbox One have several compelling exclusives on the horizon. Microsoft needs something besides HaloForza and Gears of War, we think, and it looks like new IPs are on the way.

As we’ve often said, the PS4 vs. Xbox One battle could be very entertaining on a number of different levels.

PlayStation, obviously. Xbone won’t have anything besides Halo and a new Forza eventually.

PlayStation has always had the best exclusives and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

PlayStation. They always win the first-party battle.

That being said, its important to check out the new IPs Microsoft keeps teasing for the Xbox One……..E3 might tell us a lot.

Yeah, some of those new IPs could be interesting.

But I agree that Xbox has no chance of beating PlayStation in the exclusive department. Hasn’t happened yet anyway.

Nope, hasn’t happened yet and it won’t happen any time soon.

Still…..all this talk about internal issues at Naughty Dog has me a LITTLE worried…

Don’t worry about that. It’s just some turnover…I’m sure Sony will make sure that team is well staffed.

PlayStation, of course. I’m not worried at all about the Xbone’s potential exclusives.

M$ has been promising these great new IPs since the original Xbox and so far, all we’ve got is Halo, Gears and Forza.

Well, there were a few others, like Alan Wake and Lost Odyssey.

But for the most part, you’re right.
