The Escapist Publishes an Admirable The Wolf Among Us Review
The Wolf Among Us is the new narrative-driven series from Telltale Games, the same company that produced the award-winning The Walking Dead episodic franchise. Now, after five solid, engaging installments, Wolf comes to a close with Episode 5: Cry Wolf.
And if you want to read an excellent evaluation of the final episode, check out review from The Escapist’s Greg Tito. The writing reflects the accomplished script in the game, and the reader learns a great deal about the game’s characters and lore.
Not everyone appreciates great writing in video games, but that doesn’t mean we can’t acknowledge a job well done. Tito’s score and compelling analysis prove that in fact, great stories do have a place in video games. Here’s hoping they’ll just get better with time.
Why We Like It:
— The critic effectively balances analysis of the story and the action. The fifth episode has more action than previous entries, but the focus remains on the narrative, and the reviewer doesn’t lose sight of this fact.
— An in-depth, intelligent view of the story. Too many critics will simply tell you the story was great, but they won’t go into specifics. A good critic always goes into detail when it comes to top-tier storytelling, because glossing over it is an insult to the writers.
— The reader gets a sense of the game’s drama and emotion, thanks to solid writing and description. We continue to reward this because it’s just so damn critical.
