It had a giant amount of potential, but it doesn’t appear to have fully realized that potential.
So, our question to kick off the week is as follows: Considering the significant difference between expectations and the review scores, could we argue that Watch Dogs is the biggest flop of 2014 thus far?
It’s a great game, but it may not be great enough in the eyes of many gamers.
One could argue that most games haven’t entirely lived up to expectations this year. inFamous: Second Son, certainly one of the most anticipated games of the year only managed a Metascore of 80, and while Titanfall was said by many to be the second coming of the FPS, its average is only an 86. Where’s the games that can average a 90+? Thus far, only collections and re-released HD upgrades have managed to score off the charts.
As for Watch Dogs, many believed that if it didn’t drag down consistent 9+ scores, it would be deemed a colossal disappointment. Well, we’re looking at an overall review average that barely hits 8, let alone 9. So, what do you say? Flop of the year? Or just a hugely underrated game by the critics?
